ABOUT GUIDING STAR
Day by Day, week by week and year by year, we are dilligently and tireslessly continuing the legacy of the late Dr. Raymond Smith, here at the First Guiding Star Baptist Church. The late Dr. Smith often times stood at the poolpit praising the Lord with song, dance and scripture. We (the new clergy & members) of the First Guiding Star Baptist Church work hard to upkeep Pastor Ray's (as he was affectionally known) dream of deliverance and worship. Throughout Guiding Star's rich and meaningful history we still today believe in shaping the sheep of the lord. After a long illness , Pastor Ray's daughter came to christ in the late 1990's in hopes of helping take on the torch of her dad's church. After Pastor Ray's death, his daughter Minister Antoinette D. Smith resided as pastor of Guiding Star Baptist Church. Pastor Tony said "we are a church guidied by the spirt of God and motivated by the love of God". Pastor Tony served as pastor and celebrated many anniversaries for a decade before deciding to step down in December of 2011. Soon after Pastor Tony resigned, one of our ministers, Elder Terrell Robinson of the First Guiding Star Baptist Church joyfully took the position as Senior Pastor. Pastor Robinson, his congregation, clergy and many other saints of God joined together on the night of May 6, 2011 to install him as the New Senior Pastor of The First Guiding Star Baptist Church. Pastor Robinson says that we are a "Church of Praise & Worship" Shortly after Pastor Robinson's Installation Service, he introduced his new Adjutant In-Training, Brother, John L. Pannell. Brother John, has been a memer of Guiding Star since the early 2000's and still comes cheerfully to give God the praise, through working with the Youth Ministry, and supporting his pastor by serving him as needed. Additionally, one of Guiding Star's decicated Minister's for several years decieded to uplift our new pastor and his mission in all of her duties of becoming Guiding Star's first Assistant Pastor. We thank Assistant Pastor Elder Alease for helping in the shaping of our church and uplifting the mission and institutional vision of our Pastor. We are currenly seeking to better our Brookland Community in Northeast Washington, D.C. by implementing future programs and ministries within the church that will allow the youth of the community to come and worship and participate in our city-wide events, so please check back often for updates. Remember that we are not the light but we are to bear witness of that light, our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
